HBO's Lanterns, a superhero mystery series set in the DC Universe, premieres in one week, arriving just as House of the Dragon's third season concluded and with the fantasy franchise's next instalment not due until 2028. The show is created by Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof alongside comics writer Tom King and Ozark's Chris Mundy, and aims to replicate the success of HBO's earlier superhero-mystery hit by blending the tone of the anthology series True Detective with the DC Universe overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Lanterns follows veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), who reluctantly trains newcomer John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) while the pair investigate a murder in the small Nebraska town of Rushville, uncovering a threat from shape-shifting alien Manhunters. The series connects to Gunn's wider DC Universe, featuring Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), who first appeared in 2025's Superman, and the classic villain Sinestro, Hal's former mentor turned enemy. Stewart is also expected to appear in the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow.
