Two weeks after Dolly Parton's death on 25 August, a new recording has been released featuring her vocals. "Bound to Ride", credited to Dolly Parton & The First Ladies of Bluegrass, was issued on 9 September and forms part of the forthcoming tribute album Where the Soul Never Dies: Celebrating 80 Years of The Stanley Brothers, out 16 October on Compass Records. The track underlines Parton's lifelong connection to bluegrass music, a genre she returned to repeatedly throughout her career.

Parton recorded her vocal in isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic over a track already laid down by the First Ladies of Bluegrass, a group including banjoist Alison Brown, fiddler Becky Buller, mandolinist Sierra Hull, bassist Missy Raines and guitarist Molly Tuttle. The song, originally recorded by the Stanley Brothers in 1964, sees Parton deliver spirited ad libs and call out musicians by name during their solos. The wider tribute album features artists including Willie Nelson, Billy Strings and Dierks Bentley, while another Parton recording, "My Place in History", remains locked away at Dollywood until 2046, her would-be 100th birthday.
