A Virginia family is mourning the sudden death of 12-year-old Oliver "Oli" Forlines, who passed away on 26 August in Arrington, near Charlottesville. The cause of death has not been disclosed, but his grieving family has used his obituary to urge people to be kind to one another, noting that "we never truly know what someone else may be carrying." The case has drawn an outpouring of community support, including a candlelight vigil held at a local high school football field.

Oliver is survived by his parents, Jonathan Forlines and Gloria Hall, and his younger brother Elisha, with whom he was described as "inseparable." He was remembered as a kind, curious boy who loved Lego, sport, hiking, cooking, 3D printing and collecting rocks, and was active in his church youth group and local 4-H and soccer programmes. His funeral will take place on Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, livestreamed on Facebook, with mourners asked to bring rocks for a memorial garden and donate to the church's youth programme in lieu of flowers.
