Heavens to Betsy Unvault Lost Demo Tapes for New Album
Heavens to Betsy, the punk duo of Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker and Tracy Sawyer, are releasing their first material since disbanding in 1994. The archival album, titled "Baby's Gone," arrives via Kill Rock Stars on 16 October, following the pair's previously announced reunion tour, and marks a significant return for a band whose 1990s work tackled themes such as rape culture, body image and queer community that the duo feel remain strikingly relevant today.
The 16-track record combines eight previously unheard demos recorded in February 1992, with assistance from Bratmobile's Molly Neuman, alongside the duo's 1993 and 1994 EPs "These Monsters Are Real" and "Direction." Neuman, who used a Tascam borrowed from Evergreen State College's AV library to make the original recordings, has also written new liner notes for the release. Tucker and Sawyer described reconnecting as adults and mothers, noting that playing together again felt like "muscle memory."
