## Key points

- Armed man arrested near Trump's California golf club before RNC fundraiser
- Suspect named as Jeanine John Taele, 38, found with loaded firearm
- Trump attended the fundraiser as planned two days later

## Summary

A man described by authorities as "heavily armed" was arrested near Donald Trump's golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, two days before the President was due to headline a Republican fundraising dinner at the venue. The arrest heightened security concerns around the high-profile event, given the timing and the discovery of loaded weapons on the suspect, though no attack was carried out and the fundraiser went ahead as planned.

The man was named as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele, who was spotted taking photographs and observing security activity at the club at around 3.30pm on the Sunday beforehand. Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies detained him shortly after, finding a loaded magazine in his pocket, while a subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a loaded firearm. Trump went on to attend the Republican National Committee fundraising dinner at the family-owned golf club on the Tuesday as scheduled.
