‘Heavy Healing’ Documentary About Healing/Recuperative Powers Of Heavy, Aggressive Music To Receive Digital Release In September

Blabbermouth · 2 hours ago

MVD Entertainment Group has announced a 22 September 2026 digital release for "Heavy Healing", a documentary exploring how heavy metal and hardcore punk music have helped fans, musicians and industry figures cope with serious illness and mental health struggles. The film aims to counter longstanding stereotypes that brand such genres as noise or harmful, instead highlighting testimony from those who credit aggressive music with aiding their recovery from conditions including cancer, strokes, heart attacks and depression.

The documentary features interviews with musicians such as Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage, Lou Koller of Sick of It All, Jaret Reddick of Bowling for Soup and Vinnie Stigma of Agnostic Front, alongside industry veterans including former A&R executive Michael Alago. It was inspired by producer Seth Abrams, who suffered an aortic dissection and paralysing stroke at 34 and later relied on music during his recovery, while director Howie Abrams draws on four decades of experience working with underground bands to explore the genre's restorative power.
