## Key points

- Hegseth is seeking at least $350 billion in defence funding.
- He rejected impeachment efforts as political theatre.
- The House has not voted on Massie’s articles.

## Summary

Pete Hegseth has asked Congress to approve at least $350 billion in additional defence funding, saying it would strengthen the military and defence industry. In a video posted on X, he also defended his changes at the Pentagon and dismissed an effort to impeach him as politically motivated.

The impeachment articles, introduced by Republican Thomas Massie in September, accuse Hegseth of violating Congress’s war powers during the Iran conflict and misusing his authority in other operations. The House has not voted on them, and Massie plans to renew the effort when Congress returns next week; Donald Trump said he intends to keep Hegseth in his Cabinet.
