Tributes have poured in for graffiti artist Michael Purdy, known as Helch, who has died aged 34. His giant roller-painted pieces appeared on walls, rooftops and motorway bridges across dozens of countries, and he had previously drawn attention after 60ft letters bearing his tag near Windsor Castle reportedly upset the late Queen Elizabeth II, prompting Network Rail to remove the graffiti.

Purdy's tag had been visible since 2018, including on the M4, M1 and M25 motorways, and he enjoyed a sold-out gallery show at BSMT Space in Dalston last December, where pieces sold for tens of thousands of pounds. Fellow artists, DJs and graffiti collectives including Doc Scott, Zonk DDS and SMT crew have paid tribute online, describing him as one of Britain's most influential roller writers. The circumstances of his death have not been disclosed.
