- A man has been charged over an alleged attack on Haines.

## Summary

Independent Senator David Pocock has criticised Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s defence of a document circulated by his office that questioned federal MP Helen Haines’s criticism of a government grant. Pocock said the conduct was wrong and underhanded, and called for Albanese to take responsibility, apologise and ensure accountability.

The document raised questions about Haines’s comments on a $6 million grant to Marrickville Golf Club and pointed journalists towards funding requests in her electorate; it did not allege wrongdoing by her. Albanese said it showed Haines standing up for her electorate. Separately, the article reports that Haines is in critical condition after an alleged attack, and that a 43-year-old man has been charged and remanded in custody.
