Lancaster Country Day School in Pennsylvania is asking a court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by girls who say the school failed to act promptly after students created and circulated AI-generated nude images of classmates. The case raises questions about schools’ duties to report and protect pupils when alleged sexualised deepfakes are created off campus, particularly where state law may not yet classify such images as child abuse.

The school says it received a vague tip from the state attorney general’s office identifying one alleged perpetrator but no victims, interviewed the boy and his mother, and reported its findings back to that office. The plaintiffs allege that at least 59 girls were affected, that warnings to families and police were delayed or discouraged, and that staff did not adequately respond as the images circulated; the school disputes those claims and says it had no legal duty to report the matter to local police.
