Hijack hero who pulled jet out of death plunge learned how to fly by watching plane documentary and describes how he put ‘terrorist’ in a headlock
Passengers on a Flydubai flight subdued a pilot who had allegedly stabbed his co-pilot and tried to seize control of the aircraft. Israeli passenger Yaniv Hayoun, who had no flying experience, entered the cockpit, restrained the pilot and briefly pulled back the controls as the jet plunged, helping avert a potential disaster.
Hayoun said the aircraft lost about 14,000 to 15,000 feet in less than a minute, and other passengers helped tie up the injured pilot. He credited watching the television programme *Air Crash Investigation* with giving him some familiarity with aircraft controls. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later met him at Ben Gurion Airport.
