History’s First Billion-Dollar Biopic Is About to Be Your Next Streaming Obsession
Antoine Fuqua's musical biopic "Michael," about Michael Jackson, has become the first biopic in history to gross $1 billion at the global box office, and it is now heading to streaming. The film will be available on Starz in the United States from 10 August, roughly four months after its theatrical debut, giving audiences their first chance to watch it at home.
The film surpassed the $1 billion milestone earlier in 2026 following a strong final run in Japanese cinemas, overtaking Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" to claim the record. Despite lukewarm reviews from critics, "Michael" ultimately took $1.021 billion worldwide, with $649 million of that coming from international markets outside the US.
