- Erosion and rain caused a large sinkhole near his Malibu home.

## Summary

Nicolas Cage and his wife, Riko Shibata, appeared together at the Los Angeles premiere of his forthcoming film “Madden”, smiling and holding hands. Their outing came after Cage said he had been living in hotels since his Malibu home was threatened by a sinkhole, making the property damage a continuing disruption for the family.

Cage’s $10.5 million beachfront house began sinking after coastal erosion and heavy rain opened a hole in the driveway. The hole, initially reported as 30 feet by 30 feet, expanded towards the house, while neighbours evacuated and other homes on the street were reported unsafe. The city approved Cage’s requests for emergency sandbags and work connected with shoreline preparation and soil sampling; he also planned to take his four-year-old daughter trick-or-treating in Santa Monica.
