## Key points

- A welfare check uncovered Lawrence Brennen’s concealed body.
- Two residents face charges over the alleged concealment.
- The cause of death remains unclear.

## Summary

A welfare check at a Santa Barbara residence led police to discover the body of 39-year-old Lawrence Brennen, concealed inside a bedroll and metal container and wrapped in plastic. Two residents, Jenica Monique Ochoa and Kenneth Eugene Tompkins, have been charged over the alleged concealment, turning the inquiry into a homicide investigation.

Prosecutors allege Ochoa and Tompkins conspired to conceal Brennen’s death between 23 and 27 October. They face conspiracy and concealment charges, along with enhancements linked to earlier burglary convictions, but neither has been charged with causing his death; both have pleaded not guilty. The cause of death and Brennen’s relationship to the suspects remain unclear, and a preliminary hearing is due to be scheduled after their 30 November court appearance.
