## Key points

- Prosecutors say Gordon killed McInerney before her planned move to Portugal.
- Her body was found in his freezer nearly three years later.
- Gordon denies murder and says he acted in self-defence.

## Summary

A court has heard that George Gordon allegedly murdered Delia McInerney, a friend he called his “soulmate”, and kept her dismembered body in a freezer at his flat for nearly three years. Prosecutors say he then posed as her in messages and used her bank accounts, while Gordon denies murder and now claims he acted in self-defence.

McInerney, 62, was due to move to Portugal with her five guinea pigs in April 2023. Prosecutors say Gordon bought a sledgehammer and handsaw before her death, and that the guinea pigs were later found to have died by drowning. Her body was discovered on 8 January this year; the court also heard that more than £2,000 was transferred from her accounts and that Gordon obtained a loan and credit cards in her name.
