## Key points

- Egypt have dismissed coach Hossam Hassan amid controversy.
- Ali Maher takes charge before November’s Malawi qualifiers.
- Hassan leaves with 21 wins from 38 matches.

## Summary

The Egyptian Football Association has dismissed Hossam Hassan as national team coach, saying recent controversies had harmed the team’s image and stability. Ali Maher, manager of Ceramica Cleopatra, has been appointed to replace him ahead of upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The decision followed a media appearance ban imposed on Hassan over a case concerning his private life and former wife; allegations made against her by Hassan’s lawyers have been denied by her representatives. Hassan’s tenure included a run to the 2026 World Cup last 16, Egypt’s best result at the tournament, and an Africa Cup of Nations semi-final. He leaves after 38 matches, with 21 wins, 10 draws and seven defeats; Maher’s first games are against Malawi on 13 and 17 November.
