Hundreds of volunteers descended on the Suffolk village of Brantham to help search for three-year-old Noah Woods, who went missing from a playground on Tuesday afternoon, only for the effort to end in tragedy when his body was found in a nearby pond. Police confirmed the discovery at an emotional gathering at Brantham Leisure Centre, where Superintendent Tom Pearse thanked the community for its overwhelming support and asked that Noah's family now be given time, space and privacy.

Noah, who was non-verbal, partially deaf and being assessed for autism, had slipped away from a family member's attention near the playground before vanishing down a narrow path. Police divers recovered his body from Decoy Pond, roughly 200 yards from where he was last seen. Brantham's population of around 2,300 swelled by more than half, with at least 1,300 volunteers joining organised search parties, CCTV appeals and briefings throughout Wednesday, before news of his death brought the mass effort to a devastating end.
