## Key points

- Scalise tells Republican committee chairs to prepare for Democratic investigations.
- The guidance covers likely probes, targets and executive privilege.
- Democrats have signalled scrutiny of Trump, his administration and allies.

## Summary

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has urged Republican committee chairs to prepare for investigations expected when Democrats take control of the House next year. He framed the guidance as a way to defend President Donald Trump, his administration and allies, making it an early sign of how the parties may approach oversight in the new Congress.

Scalise’s three-point plan asks committees to map current and likely investigations, identify potential targets, and assess how Supreme Court rulings and a Justice Department memo on executive privilege might apply. The article says Democrats have signalled interest in examining Trump’s Cabinet, family, businesses and allies, as well as DHS and the handling of the Epstein files. Scalise is also seeking to become House minority leader, competing with Jim Jordan.
