- He criticised Trump’s appointment of Miller as chief of staff.
- Jeffries says the midterm result gives lawmakers a “firewall”.

## Summary

Hakeem Jeffries, likely to become Speaker of the House, says Democrats will refuse to work with Stephen Miller, whom President Trump has appointed as chief of staff. Jeffries described Miller as responsible for the administration’s deportation policies and said Democrats would oppose what he called the administration’s extremism.

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, Jeffries called the appointment irresponsible and linked Miller’s policies to the deaths of Americans Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good. He said Tuesday’s midterm vote had created a “firewall” for lawmakers opposing the administration, and pledged that Democrats would push back forcefully.
