‘House of the Dragon’ Officially Confirms Season 4’s Darkest Storyline

Collider · 2 hours ago

House of the Dragon has laid the groundwork for one of Fire & Blood's most devastating events, the Storming of the Dragonpit, through a vision seen by Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban) in Season 3, Episode 7. In the vision, Helaena rides the previously unseen dragon Dreamfyre while an angry mob storms King's Landing's Dragonpit, unleashing dragonfire on the attackers. Although visually striking, the sequence functions as an ominous preview of a much darker turn the story is expected to take in Season 4, rather than a triumphant moment.

Dreamfyre had only briefly appeared on screen before, glimpsed in Season 1 when a young Aemond (Leo Ashton) wandered into the Dragonpit, and the show has now given the dragon a redesigned look, with spiked head and neck ridges and dark, purplish-blue scales that differ from the paler blue described in George R.R. Martin's source material. Helaena's storyline is closely tied to the Dance of the Dragons civil war, and her vision is being read as confirmation that the show intends to adapt the Dragonpit's storming, a brutal episode in the books, as a major plot thread in the upcoming fourth season.

  • Helaena's vision hints at Season 4 adapting the Dragonpit's storming
  • Dragon Dreamfyre gets a redesign, finally shown properly on screen
  • Event marks one of Fire & Blood's darkest, most devastating moments
