Republican Representative Jeff Crank has introduced a House resolution condemning socialism, saying he wants a vote to test whether moderate Democrats will publicly distance themselves from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). The measure reflects Republican concern about the DSA’s growing electoral influence, particularly after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s victory, while Democrats’ positions on the group could become a point of political conflict.

Crank accused the DSA of being anti-American, anti-Constitution and hostile to free speech, and also linked its criticism of Israel to antisemitism; these are his allegations. The resolution supports the SAVE Act’s citizenship-verification requirement for federal voter registration and criticises DSA proposals including voting rights for permanent residents, incarcerated people and people with convictions, abolition of the Senate, and a judiciary subordinate to Congress.
