House Republican Thomas Massie suggests Obamacare could now be labeled ‘Trumpcare’

Fox News · 3 hours ago

Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky has publicly criticised President Donald Trump and his own party over their failure to repeal Obamacare, suggesting the healthcare law could now be renamed "Trumpcare". Writing on X on Wednesday, Massie argued that Republicans had made no serious effort to dismantle the Affordable Care Act despite controlling the House, Senate and White House. His remarks matter because they highlight open dissent within the Republican Party over a long-standing conservative pledge to overturn the law.

Massie claimed the existing system persists because it "enriches insurance and hospital companies", and said Trump had "endorsed literally every Republican who wants to keep Obamacare". The comments come after Massie lost his Kentucky primary in May to Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL. Massie, who has served in the House since late 2012, has signalled he intends to remain politically active. The White House was contacted for comment.
