How damning texts exposed NSW Police officer’s revenge plot against TikToker who filmed his mate: ‘The intel I’m gonna do is gonna make him regret his life’
A former New South Wales Police officer, Meleck Lababidi, has lost his attempt to be reinstated to the force after he was sacked for creating a false police intelligence report as an act of revenge against a member of the public who filmed him on TikTok. Lababidi had asked the Industrial Relations Commission to overturn his removal, arguing it was "harsh, unreasonable and unjust", but the tribunal rejected his bid and upheld the dismissal. The case is notable because it centres on the alleged misuse of police databases against an ordinary member of the public, with the officer's own text messages becoming key evidence against him.
Lababidi was ordered to leave the force in November 2024 by the then Police Commissioner Karen Webb, who said she had lost "confidence" in his suitability to continue serving. He had previously worked at Bankstown Police Station before being transferred to Burwood in December 2021 following an investigation into an altercation with a member of the public. The removal order rested on two allegations relating to his conduct on 24 March 2022 at Burwood Police Station, where, according to court documents, he created a false or "misleading" intelligence report against a person who had filmed and uploaded an interaction with a colleague. Damning text messages, including boasts that "the intel I'm gonna do is gonna make him regret his life" and "I'm gonna target him so hard", featured heavily in the case.
