How ‘Fallout’ Made 120-Pound Power Armor Look Effortless
Stunt performers Jeremy Fitzgerald and Tim Soergel have earned their first Emmy nominations for their stunt work in season two of Amazon Prime Video's "Fallout", specifically for the episode "The Profligate". Their nomination centres on a fight sequence between Power Armor-clad characters Maximus and Xander and a Securitron robot, showcasing the physical demands of performing complex action work inside 120-pound robotic suits.
The performers describe the suits, built by Legacy Effects, as gruelling to work in, requiring roughly "300 percent extra effort" to make movement look natural while wearing 12-inch platform blocks and contending with severely limited visibility. Fitzgerald, who doubles as Maximus, needed six people to help him up if he fell and was sidelined for three days after a separate fight with a Deathclaw creature. Neither performer worked on the first season, so they used season two as a chance to push the suits' limits, with Soergel discovering he could raise his arms overhead by using swing momentum, despite being told it was impossible.
- Fitzgerald and Soergel earn first Emmy nods for "Fallout" stunt work.
- Their Power Armor suits weigh 120 pounds and are gruelling to move in.
- Fitzgerald was out three days after a taxing Deathclaw fight scene.
