Father critically injured while intervening in car break-in, years after wife’s death
Colin Sheean is in an induced coma after being stabbed twice when he allegedly intervened as three teenagers broke into a car in Langwarrin, south-east of Melbourne. The attack has renewed attention on the family’s earlier tragedy: his wife, Natalie, died aged 38 after a cardiac arrest in 2021, leaving him to raise their three children.
Police arrested two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy, who appeared in the Children’s Court; two were remanded in custody and one was granted bail. The 17-year-old is accused of telling his father that Sheean was “a hero” who tried to fight him, and of stabbing him in the back and chest. A fundraiser for the family had raised more than A$140,000 by Tuesday, well above its A$30,000 target.
