Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton have released a new children's book, Shy, published by Abrams Books, continuing their decades-long collaboration on children's literature. The story follows a timid shelter dog who discovers her voice through music after being adopted by a pianist, and was directly inspired by a real-life incident involving Andrews' own poodle, who sang along during her vocal warm-ups while she was performing in My Fair Lady in London.

The pair, who write by talking aloud and finishing each other's sentences before revising extensively, have now produced more than 35 children's books together across picture books, chapter books, poetry anthologies and memoirs. Shy is illustrated by Eva Byrne and was released on Tuesday. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Andrews reflected on the project as another way of using her voice creatively, alongside teasing an upcoming Disney documentary and addressing questions about a possible return for The Princess Diaries 3.
