How new bird show hopes to help endangered flyers
Kynren, a theme park in County Durham, has opened The Lost Feather, a theatrical bird show housing and training 170 birds representing 35 species. The animals, sourced from zoos, private collections, and rescued shipments, perform in an outdoor arena designed as a giant bird's nest and are equipped with tracking devices for safety.
The attraction serves dual purposes of entertainment and conservation education, led by curator Jimmy Robinson and his team. They are establishing breeding programmes for critically endangered species including African white-backed vultures and African grey crowned cranes, hoping to inspire visitors to support bird protection either professionally or through grassroots efforts in their local environments.
