Apple has published guidance explaining how to add and remove different types of cards and passes in Apple Wallet, covering payment cards as well as items such as transit passes, tickets, loyalty cards and ID. The process varies depending on the item: debit and credit cards are added directly through the Wallet app, while gift cards, loyalty passes and tickets generally rely on support from the issuing company rather than a universal Wallet option.

To add a card, users tap the Plus button in Wallet and either scan a physical card or enter its details, with the issuing bank sometimes requiring extra verification. Other passes, such as tickets or loyalty cards, typically appear via an "Add to Apple Wallet" button in an app, email, website or QR code. Removing a card only deletes it from the device in use, whereas deleting a pass removes it across all of the user's devices. Apple also offers a way to strip Apple Pay cards from a lost or stolen iPhone remotely, either through another Apple device or via a browser sign-in.
