The Black Bear production, based on Ursula Wills-Jones's short story "The Wicker Husband," stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman who commissions a basketmaker (Peter Dinklage) to weave her a husband, only for chaos to ensue when the village realises he is every woman's dream man. The film had already premiered at Sundance earlier in the year, but it was the wider public release of the trailer last week that triggered the online reaction.

Reaction on TikTok has been intense, with Fandango's post attracting more than 11 million views and thousands of comments, many jokingly debating the practicalities of a wicker anatomy, from splinter risk to supposed wax linings. Skarsgård, known for taking on unconventional roles such as a BDSM biker in "Pillion" and a mute Amish bartender in "Mute," is credited with helping drive the fascination. "Wicker" is due for a theatrical release in October.
