Unlike a standard chatbot, coding agents like Grok Build integrate directly into a developer's environment, reading and writing files, running commands and assessing an entire codebase, which makes them useful for large or complex software projects rather than copying code back and forth from a chat window.

Grok Build can be installed via terminal commands on Windows, macOS or Linux, since processing happens in the cloud, and it requires logging in through an X account. It runs entirely in a terminal but supports mouse input, though users still need a separate text editor, such as Visual Studio Code, for manual edits, unlike rival tools such as Google's Antigravity, which bundle a full IDE. Access is tied to Grok subscription tiers: free users have limited tokens, while paid SuperGrok plans range from $30 to $300 a month, with usage limits resetting weekly.
