- A missed meeting led to a later show of support.

## Summary

Comedian Zainab Johnson’s Netflix special *Toxically Optimistic* is the first comedy special produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s company, Higher Ground. Michelle Obama introduces Johnson on stage, reflecting how a chance meeting turned into a public show of support and a notable new production for the company.

Johnson first missed an opportunity to meet Obama in Detroit because she had to get to her show, then met her weeks later at a voting event in Atlanta. Obama recognised Johnson and praised her special to others in the room. Johnson later asked whether Obama might introduce her Netflix special; the hour was released on 27 October.
