## Key points

- A huge student-backed crowd rallied in Belgrade before Sunday’s election.
- The students’ ticket is polling neck and neck with Vucic’s party.
- Observers warn a close result could fuel uncertainty after the vote.

## Summary

Hundreds of thousands of supporters of Serbia’s student-led protest movement filled central Belgrade for a final rally before Sunday’s early parliamentary election. The strong turnout underscores the movement’s growing challenge to President Aleksandar Vucic’s long-ruling Serbian Progressive Party after nearly two years of protests.

The students’ election ticket is polling close to Vucic’s party, which supporters say has an advantage through its influence over mainstream media and state institutions. Election monitors and the European Union have raised concerns about ballot fairness, while analysts warn that a close result and competing victory claims could lead to post-election instability. Vucic held a separate rally, predicted his party would win by hundreds of thousands of votes, and said the contest would be tough and uncertain.
