## Key points

- Warwick Davis attended the Oxford Street shop opening.
- Fans queued overnight to be among the first inside.
- The store may challenge unaffiliated Potter retailers.

## Summary

Warwick Davis attended the opening of a new Harry Potter flagship shop on Oxford Street, where hundreds of fans had queued overnight. The store gives the franchise a major official retail presence in central London as unaffiliated Potter shops have become part of the city’s tourist trade.

Spanning more than 21,000 square feet across two floors, the shop is designed around Diagon Alley and includes a ceremony where visitors can customise a bear with Hogwarts house clothing. It is Britain’s second official Harry Potter shop, after the one at King’s Cross; merchandise is also sold at the Warner Bros Studio Tour in Leavesden. At least six unaffiliated Potter shops operate in London’s West End, and a retail expert said the new store could put pressure on them.
