## Key points

- Hull City held Aston Villa 0-0 at the MKM Stadium.
- Villa remain winless and goalless after three Premier League games.
- Hull's strong promoted-season start continues under Sergej Jakirovic.

## Summary

Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw at newly promoted Hull City, extending their winless start to the Premier League season and leaving them without a goal in three consecutive matches. Hull matched their top-flight opponents and looked the more threatening side over the course of the game, a result that reinforced manager Sergej Jakirovic's belief that his side can beat the drop, coming just days after he signed a new two-year contract at the club.

Hull's Mohamed Belloumi was the game's standout performer, twice going close and striking the crossbar with a stunning left-foot effort in the 65th minute after earlier nutmegging Ross Barkley, while substitutes Oli McBurnie and Mohamed-Ali Cho also had late chances for the hosts. Villa created several openings of their own, with Nicolas Jackson heading wide early on and Emiliano Buendía blazing over an inviting cut-back, but the point leaves Unai Emery's side, who are undergoing a major squad rebuild with ten new signings, still searching for their first win and first goal in three games.
