A new Hulu crime thriller has emerged as a hit successor to Netflix's "Mindhunter," which was cancelled after two seasons amid a dispute between executive producer David Fincher and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos over budget and scheduling. The series, created by Elizabeth Meriwether and starring Emmy Rossum as an FBI investigator hunting a female serial killer played by Lola Petticrew, has earned strong critical reviews and quickly drawn a large audience, filling the gap left by Fincher's acclaimed but discontinued show.

The show premiered with three episodes on Hulu on 27 July and will wrap up its eight-episode first season on 31 August. It briefly held a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes shortly after launch and rose to the top of the Disney+ and Hulu viewership charts, before being overtaken by Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis's "The Shards." The supporting cast includes Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Jake Lacy, with guest appearances from Rob Delaney, Campbell Scott and Hope Davis.
