Tom Six, the controversial Dutch filmmaker behind the “Human Centipede” trilogy, has announced that his final film, “The End of Tom Six”, will be released independently on 15 August. The project documents his deteriorating health while reflecting on mortality, artistic freedom and the film industry, and marks his first public disclosure that he has lived with multiple sclerosis for 14 years.

Six filmed the hybrid documentary, which includes actors, over six years while isolated at his Amsterdam home. He and producer Maartje Willems will release it on YouTube using a pay-what-you-want model, with a DVD edition also planned; the cast includes Edwin Alofs, Demian Kurosa and Servaes Nelissen. A press statement links the stress of struggling to release his 2019 satire “The Onania Club” to the worsening of his condition, though this is presented as Six’s account.
