## Summary

Kaylub Giamanco, a father whose daughter attended Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, has spoken publicly for the first time about confronting a gunman at the school. He says he acted after seeing 16-year-old Griffin John II enter the grounds with a rifle, believing children were in immediate danger.

Giamanco told Oregon Public Broadcasting that he called 911, then went into the school and shot John as he struggled with a teacher; he fired twice more when John reached for his weapon. Three children with special needs and a teacher were killed in the 15 October attack. Giamanco said he is grateful for people’s support but is struggling with not having been able to save those who died, and apologised to the victims’ families.
