‘Hunt: We Need To Talk About James’: Feature Doc On Legendary Late Formula 1 Driver Goes Into Production
A feature-length documentary about the late British Formula 1 world champion James Hunt has entered production, with Damon Hill and Bernie Ecclestone joining as contributors. The film aims to examine Hunt’s life beyond his public image as a rebellious racing star, which matters because he remains one of Britain’s most recognisable motorsport figures and the project is being positioned as a major new screen portrait of his legacy.
The documentary is being made by Deep Fusion with support from the Hunt estate and is planned for release to mark the 50th anniversary of Hunt’s 1976 Formula 1 title. Hunt died in 1993 at the age of 43, and the filmmakers say the project will offer a fuller picture of him, including previously untold stories. It is directed and produced by Benjamin Field, executive produced by John Gore, and will feature a score by BAFTA-nominated composer Sam Gale.
