I bought DJI’s banned camera — it was cheap and easy

The Verge · 1 hour ago

The Verge's Sean Hollister has demonstrated that DJI's newly banned Osmo Pocket 4 and Pocket 4 Pro cameras are freely and easily available to American buyers despite an FCC import ban, having ordered one himself through Temu with no difficulty. The cameras, already physically present within the US, are being sold via mainstream platforms including Temu, AliExpress, eBay, Mercari, Amazon and Newegg, undermining the intended effect of the ban and raising questions about the FCC's ability to enforce it.

The two devices were certified by the FCC shortly before a December 2025 ban on new foreign drones took effect, allowing regulators to invoke a little-used rule (47 CFR 2.962(f)) to revoke their certification retroactively. Hollister's Pocket 4 Pro Vlog Combo, complete with microphone and remote, arrived from an Oregon fulfilment centre within four days and cost him $659.28 — cheaper than the previous-generation model in 2023. DJI told The Verge it has fully complied with the FCC's decision and never officially released or distributed the products in the US, insisting it has no involvement in third-party sales, while the FCC declined to comment on record about how the ban was applied.
