“I hope you’re well. I hope there’s not a physical problem”: David Lee Roth has suddenly cancelled his US tour – and he’s got a surprising message of support from his nemesis Sammy Hagar

David Lee Roth has abruptly cancelled almost all remaining dates on his US tour, which had begun in April and was later extended to September. No reason was given, but the move matters because it has prompted concern about the former Van Halen singer’s wellbeing and unexpectedly drew support from his long-time rival, Sammy Hagar.

On 23 July, six scheduled shows between that date and 4 September disappeared from Roth’s website; a Sturgis, South Dakota date on 7 August remained listed. Hagar, who replaced Roth in Van Halen and has had a strained relationship with him, released a sympathetic video saying he hoped Roth was well and that there was no physical problem.

  • David Lee Roth cancelled nearly all remaining US tour dates.
  • No explanation was provided for the sudden cancellations.
  • Rival Sammy Hagar publicly expressed concern and support.
