## Key points

- Covid-19 halted Stevens’s Broadway run in *Hangmen*.
- He could not return when the production resumed.
- Alfie Allen played Mooney in the 2022 run.

## Summary

Dan Stevens says he was “gutted” to lose his role as Mooney in the 2020 Broadway production of Martin McDonagh’s play *Hangmen*. The show closed during the Covid-19 shutdown, and Stevens could not return when it resumed, ending a stage run he had loved.

The production completed 13 previews before closing; Stevens had been due to appear with Mark Addy and Ewan Bremner. Alfie Allen took over as Mooney for the play’s ten-week limited run in 2022. Stevens has not performed on stage since *Hangmen* closed, despite having acted in numerous plays earlier in his career.
