British film editor and soundman Ian Crafford has died aged 82 after a long battle with cancer. His work spanned major British and American productions, including *Monty Python and the Holy Grail*, *Hope and Glory* and *Field of Dreams*, making him a significant behind-the-scenes contributor to acclaimed cinema over several decades.

Crafford died on 22 July at his home in Brazil, according to his son Scott. Born in Hemel Hempstead in 1944, he began at Elstree Studios aged 17, received a BAFTA nomination for editing *Hope and Glory*, and worked on two Oscar best picture nominees within three years; he is survived by his wife Antonia and four children.
