US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has launched a tipline for the public to report suspected fraud in the issuing of commercial driver's licences (CDLs), as part of a wider Trump administration crackdown on unqualified lorry drivers. The move follows several fatal crashes involving undocumented immigrants who had obtained CDLs from various states, prompting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Transportation to intensify enforcement against fraudulent licensing.

DHS cited multiple cases to justify the initiative, including a July crash in which a Haitian national holding a Massachusetts-issued CDL allegedly killed a Pennsylvania state trooper, and separate fatal collisions in Indiana, Oregon and Florida involving drivers licensed in Pennsylvania and California. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin urged Americans to use the new hotline, 866-347-2423, calling the granting of CDLs to undocumented migrants a threat to road safety. The tipline follows earlier enforcement drives, including an August operation that removed more than 800 truckers from US roads, 51 of them undocumented immigrants, and an October 2025 Oklahoma operation that led to 120 arrests, 91 involving commercial licence holders. Officials say they are also targeting fraudulent practices at CDL training schools nationwide.
