US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is pursuing more than $470,000 in civil fines against a New York-based immigration attorney accused of submitting fraudulent documents to support asylum applications for dozens of clients. The case highlights ICE's efforts to crack down on alleged abuses of the asylum system by legal practitioners, with the agency treating the alleged conduct as a pattern rather than an isolated incident.

According to ICE, the lawyer allegedly filed more than 100 documents containing recycled or duplicated persecution claims across numerous separate asylum cases, suggesting the same fabricated narratives were reused for different clients. The proposed penalty of nearly half a million dollars reflects the scale of the alleged fraud, which ICE says spanned dozens of individual filings.
