## Key points

- Hunter reports knocks and a strong smell in Idaho woods.
- He heard a brief, indistinct deep voice.
- No source for the sounds or smell was found.

## Summary

An Idaho deer hunter has reported hearing repeated knocks, detecting a powerful smell of decay and briefly hearing a deep, indistinct voice while walking a remote trail near St Maries. He did not see the source, and the account has been presented as a possible Bigfoot encounter, though the reported sounds and smell do not establish what caused them.

The hunter told the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization that the incident happened at about 5pm on 20 October, with knocking coming from a creek bed roughly 200 to 300 yards away and continuing for five to ten minutes. He said he searched for an animal carcass but found none, and saw no human footprints or other signs of people nearby; he also described himself as an experienced outdoorsman with no previous encounter of this kind.
