Idolises Ronaldo, plays like Saka – meet £40m Chelsea winger Quenda
Chelsea have completed the £40m signing of 18-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting, formally unveiling the highly-rated Portugal Under-21 international on a contract until 2034. Although the deal was reportedly agreed as far back as March 2025, the move marks a significant addition for the Premier League club, who have secured one of the most talked-about young talents in European football. Quenda hopes to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo, who took a similar path from Sporting's academy to England.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, Quenda moved to Portugal aged seven and progressed through grassroots club Damaiense and Benfica's academy before joining Sporting, where he broke several records — including becoming the club's youngest Champions League goalscorer and surpassing Ronaldo's mark as the youngest scorer in Liga Portugal. Former coaches praised his explosiveness, creativity and mentality, with several comparing him stylistically to Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and rating him among the best players born in 2007, alongside Lamine Yamal and Estevao. He has made 86 appearances for Sporting.
