Illegal immigrant soccer coach who used alcohol and drugs to sexually abuse kids learns fate
A soccer coach living in Franklin, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 30 years in a US federal prison for sexually exploiting children in his care. Camilo Campos-Hurtado, a Mexican citizen who was in the country illegally, pleaded guilty in June to seven charges, including four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, receiving child sexual abuse material, and offences relating to fraudulent immigration and identification documents. Officials say he repeatedly used alcohol and drugs to incapacitate and abuse children while working as a coach.
The investigation began in 2023 after someone found explicit videos on a mobile phone he had left behind at a Franklin business and reported them to local police. A subsequent search of his home and vehicle uncovered electronic devices. Federal prosecutors had sought a 50-year sentence at the hearing on 2 July. The Department of Homeland Security said that if Campos-Hurtado is ever released, ICE will immediately remove him from the country. The case has been cited by officials in the wider political debate over crime committed by people in the US illegally.
