In 2020, David Gilmour was asked to honour one of his guitar heroes. He was too intimidated to say yes
David Gilmour initially felt too intimidated to perform at a concert honouring Peter Green, the Fleetwood Mac founder and guitarist he greatly admired. He eventually agreed, showing how Green’s influence and music mattered even to one of rock’s most celebrated guitarists.
Mick Fleetwood said he had to cold-call Gilmour, who worried he could not do Green’s songs justice. After taking time to reconsider, Gilmour performed ‘Albatross’ and ‘Oh Well, Part Two’ at the London Palladium tribute concert. Green, who left Fleetwood Mac after three years and later prioritised his mental health, knew the event was taking place but did not attend.
