Finnish YouTube creator Abdirahman Keinaan turns the racist taunt “Go back to Somalia” into the title and premise of a personal documentary series. The programme follows his journey from Finland, where he was born and raised, to Somalia, exploring his identity and experiences between two cultures while challenging stereotypical views of the country.

“Keinaan, Go Back to Somalia” premiered at the Helsinki International Film Festival and was made with Finland’s YLE, directed by Keinaan and Timo Korpi. Keinaan, who began making YouTube videos at 16 and documentaries two years ago, says the project was emotionally difficult because he rarely discusses himself; he hopes its themes will resonate internationally with people questioning where they belong and what constitutes home.
