## Summary

West Hollywood will hold its first Human Rights Film Festival on 20 and 21 November, using documentaries and a special screening of *Blood Diamond* to focus attention on human rights, social justice and civil liberties. Organisers say the event will recognise filmmakers and human rights defenders, and revisit the film’s influence on public awareness of conflict diamonds.

The programme includes Ava DuVernay’s *14th*, about the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment, and *American Doctor*, which follows three US physicians treating Palestinian children injured in the Gaza conflict; both were shortlisted by DOC NYC. *Blood Diamond*, directed by Edward Zwick and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou, marks its 20th anniversary at the festival’s opening on 20 November. Saturday’s documentary screenings and discussions are free, and organisers intend to expand the festival into an annual three-day event in 2027.
